Swizz Beatz To Appear On Lil Wayne's Tha Carter IV

The producer reveals that he contributed a track called 'Ann' to Weezy's album that he says 'is like a letter to [Eminem's] 'Stan.' '

Swizz Beatz has been keeping himself busy lately. His track "Everyday (Coolin')" is heating up the at radio, he's prepping his latest album, Haute Living, and he's been in the studio working on two of this year's most-awaited releases, Dr Dre's Detox and the Jay-Z and Kanye West collaboration Watch the Throne. In addition, Swizz has been working on another highly anticipated album, Lil Wayne's Tha Carter IV.

Swizz told us that he's worked on one song that will appear on Tha Carter IV thus far, a tune he describes as "super dope." The track was originally intended for his own album, but he swapped it out in order to get Wayne on a song with Lenny Kravitz and Travis Barker for Haute Living. Swizz said he enjoys working with Wayne, because he gets to make more conceptual tracks as opposed to the typical Weezy songs that flood the radio and airwaves, as well as the Internet.

"He has so many songs on the radio and to separate from that and really do something that stands out, I feel where I stand is something that is conceptual," explained Swizz. "The song is called 'Ann,' and 'Ann' is like a letter to 'Stan.' It's a spinoff of the [Eminem] joint, but it's from [Wayne's] perspective."

"Stan," of course, was one of the many stand-out tracks from Eminem's classic 2000 effort, The Marshall Mathers LP. The song focuses on a fan obsessed with Em who writes him letters that "Stan" feels are going ignored. The song would peak at #1 in nearly every country outside of the States.

Swizzy didn't go into too much more detail about "Ann," but he did say that it may not be his only offering on Weezy's new album.

"With me and Wayne, you never know," said Swizz. "[He'll] pop up and be like, 'Yo, I'm mixing this one and this one and this one. I'll be all right. Let's dance.' "

Are you interested in hearing Swizz Beatz's collaboration with Lil Wayne? Tell us in the comments.

While Willow Smith is the one who made music headlines with "Whip My Hair" last year, it's her brother, "Karate Kid" actor Jaden Smith, who will take the stage at the upcoming 53rd Grammy Awards in a special performance alongside Usher and Justin Bieber, with whom he collaborated on the song "Never Say Never" last summer.

The trio joins a list of new performers added to the show on Thursday (January 20) that will also include another power trifecta made up of B.o.B, Bruno Mars and Janelle Monáe, according to a press release from the Recording Academy announcing the additions to the February 13 telecast from the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Also taking the stage next month will be nominees Muse and Lady Antebellum. They will join a roster of previously announced performers that includes Eminem, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Arcade Fire, Cee Lo Green and Miranda Lambert. It will be the first time on the Grammy performance stage for Bieber, B.o.B, Lambert, Mars, Monáe, Muse and Smith. Eminem, Green, Gaga, Perry, Usher and Lady Antebellum will be making return visits for the occasion.

While 11-time Grammy winner Eminem leads the pack in nominations this year (with 10 nods), Mars has seven nominations, and Gaga and Lady Antebellum are not far behind with six nods each. B.o.B has notched five, Perry and Green are each up for four, and Arcade Fire and Lambert are vying for three awards. Bieber, Muse, Usher and Monáe are each nominated for two Grammys.

No details of the collaborative performances were released, but the Grammy announcement promised a rare, never-before-seen event for the Mars, B.o.B and Monáe segment.

With the addition of Antebellum, all five Album of the Year nominees (Eminem, Arcade Fire, Gaga, Perry) are now scheduled to perform on the show. Additional performers, presenters and special segments will be announced soon.

Which Grammy performance are you most looking forward to? Talk about it in the comments!

Christina Aguilera Talks Press Scrutiny, 'The Voice' Gig

'We're only able to be seen through the microscope of the media,' the singer tells UsMagazine.com regarding her recent tabloid coverage.

While the year started off a little shaky for Christina Aguilera, a new gig as one of the judges on NBC's upcoming TV talent competition "The Voice" may prove to be the career turnaround that the pop singer is looking for. And in a new interview, she admits that it's not always easy having every move you make scrutinized by the public.

"We're only able to be seen through the microscope of the media and what people gossip about," she tells UsMagazine.com "You take the good with the bad. It's by telling our stories, sharing our experiences and really giving a firsthand look at us as human beings [that shows] who we really are apart from what we seem to be."

Aguilera, known for her own vocal pyrotechnics, admits that she doesn't want potential contestants to come to the show hoping they can win by mimicking her signature style. "I am ready to share it all so I'm really excited," she said. "I hope we can find the next biggest thing. But I'm not looking for vocal acrobatics. I really sincerely want to be moved by raw talent."

Aguilera will be joined on the "Voice" panel by Maroon 5's Adam Levine, "F--- You" singer Cee Lo Green and country star Blake Shelton. She recently explained during a press event promoting the program that she and her fellow judges hope to bring positive reinforcement and not be too cruel to those trying out for the show, which premieres on April 26.

"This isn't about tearing people down. I want to bring these people up," Aguilera maintained. "'The Voice' really does stand for what it says. Instinctually, you can judge people based on the way they look. I love the fact we get to sit here with our backs turned away from these people and completely use just one sense to hear these voices. I'm not looking for vocal acrobatics, who has biggest range [of] high and low. I'm looking forward to getting moved."

Usher Says New 'Rev Pop' Project Is A 'Movement'

Singer teases his new project by pointing to past hits like 'Yeah!' and 'OMG.'
By James Montgomery

Usher
Photo: MTV News

With the success of songs like "DJ Got Us Fallin' in Love," "Hot Tottie" and "OMG," Usher had himself a fairly massive 2010. But rather than rest on his laurels, he's looking to build on his big year, not with an album, but with a "movement."

It's something he's calling "Rev Pop" — or, simply, "Rev" — and though he's already teased his idea in a video with David Guetta (Akon is also involved), he has yet to speak in full about it. So when MTV News caught up with Ush before the 53rd annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles at the (Belvedere) RED launch party, we asked him about his next musical endeavor. And though he didn't reveal much, he did let it be known that "Rev" isn't exactly something new. In fact, he's been doing it for a while now.

"I'll give it to you this way: At a later date, I'll tell you more about Rev Pop, but if I were to give you a flash: I've done it before, I did it with 'Yeah!' " he said, "taking a cultural experience, and also worldwide recognition of a feeling, and putting the soul in the middle of it. Not allowing it to shift heavily to R&B genre, or pop. I did it again with 'OMG,' once again putting the soul in the middle of it, which was an electric-pop experience, with the soul.

"It's bringing those elements together to tell a story, that was born here," he said, gesturing toward his heart, "And that's what Rev Pop is. There's more, I mean, I could really elaborate, but that's just what I'm going to tell you right now. 'Rev' is what it's called ... the movement is called Rev."

Usher wouldn't say just when his fans would be getting their first taste of Rev, but whenever they do, it sounds like they're going to be impressed ... if not a little shocked.

"Stay alive," he smiled, "Because you're definitely going to be in for a surprise."

'X-Men: First Class' Stars Talk 'Humanizing' The Mutants

'You take all of the effects out of the movie, you still have the basis for an entertaining story,' Kevin Bacon tells MTV News.
By Kara Warner, with reporting by Eric Ditzian

The summer movie season of 2011 is poised to be one full of superheroes. Things have already been kicked off by the mighty God of Thunder, "Thor," but following quickly in his path are not one, but a whole pack of mutants-turned-superheroes in "X-Men: First Class."

When MTV News caught up with two of the actors who make up the mutant-tastic movie, January Jones and Kevin Bacon, we asked them to explain what separates this latest "X-Men" film from the rest of the DC and Marvel-based movies slated to open in the coming months.

"To me, I think it's the emotional content of the movie," Bacon said. "There's a lot of emphasis on humanizing these mutants. They're falling in love, they're having sex, they're angry with each other, they're getting drunk, they're acting childish and grown-up and learning things," he explained of the younger characters in the film. "You take all of the effects out of the movie, you still have the basis for an entertaining story."

Speaking specifically about the look and feel of their characters, who are inspired by a rich and lengthy history, Jones, who plays telepath Emma Frost, revealed she was happy to jump into the world of comic books, even if it meant wearing a bikini for most of the film.

"I was aware [of the costume]," she said. "I read the comics, I did my research. I'm more dressed in the movie than she is in the comics," she pointed out. "So I was actually quite relieved."

With regard to Bacon's character, the villainous Sebastian Shaw, we wondered if his nuanced performance might have been influenced by the evildoers in the James Bond franchise.

"No, I really didn't [draw from any of those films]," he said. "This was the first that I've even thought about Bond, but it's come up quite a bit. I love those movies," he revealed. "I grew up with those movies. They were very, very influential on me as a kid. My son, when he was about 10, he became a huge fan. We went back and watched them all again. If something feels Bond-ian, it was subconscious."

Check out everything we've got on "X-Men: First Class."

Christina Aguilera's Boyfriend Escapes DUI Charge

Matthew Rutler's blood alcohol content was determined to be within legal limit.
By Gil Kaufman

It looks like there won't be any charges filed following the early-morning traffic stop during which Christina Aguilera was taken in for allegedly being publicly drunk.

According to TMZ, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office has officially rejected the case against Aguilera's boyfriend, Matthew Rutler, citing insufficient evidence to prosecute him for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Rutler, 25, was pulled over by police early on the morning of March 1 on suspicion of DUI, but according to unnamed law enforcement sources, his blood alcohol content was determined to be .06 at the time of his arrest, which is under California's legal limit to operate a vehicle, .08. Aguilera was the passenger in the car, and at the time a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department spokesperson confirmed that one of the hosts of "The Voice" was "so intoxicated she couldn't take care of herself." The incident resulted in Aguilera, 30, being hit with a misdemeanor charge of suspicion of public drunkenness. But the Sheriff's Department announced later in the day that there was no intention of prosecuting the singer in the case.

At the time, Aguilera's arrest was seen as part of a professional and personal tailspin the singer had fallen into following a series of public hiccups. It came after the 2010 flop of her Bionic album, followed by a hastily canceled U.S. tour, the disappointing returns for her big-screen debut in "Burlesque" and her just-finalized divorce from husband Jordan Bratman. Those incidents were topped by her infamous flubbing of the national anthem at February's Super Bowl and a stumble on the Grammys stage a week later, amid tabloid reports that her partying had gotten out of hand.

And though Aguilera kept quiet about the arrest at the time, she spoke to Us magazine earlier this month about her series of "setbacks" and how she was recovering from them.

"I've gone through a really hard divorce, and anyone who has gone through a divorce will speak about how hard the journey is from start to finish," Aguilera told the magazine. "It's a life-uprooting time and there have been hiccups along the way that unfortunately the whole world gets to witness and judge. ... I can laugh about my own hiccups and my own experiences in life because I'm getting through it."

Aguilera seems on the path back to success with her latest gig as one of four coaches on NBC's upcoming singing contest, "The Voice," where she'll help aspiring singers alongside Cee Lo Green, Maroon 5's Adam Levine and country singer Blake Shelton.

NBC has been relentlessly promoting the show, which premieres on April 26 and is being touted as competition for "American Idol."

Christina Aguilera Jokes About Her National Anthem Flub

'That night I knew I just made myself a Trivial Pursuit question,' 'The Voice' judge tells Ellen DeGeneres.
By Gil Kaufman

On the day her new show is set to debut, Christina Aguilera stops by "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" Tuesday (April 26) to discuss her new gig on "The Voice" and finally answer some questions about why she forgot the lyrics to the national anthem during this year's Super Bowl.

The former child star essentially chalked the incident up to nerves and said she just got caught up in the excitement of it all. "I took in the moment a little bit too much," Aguilera said of flubbing the lyrics to "The Star Spangled Banner," which she said she's been singing since she was 7 or 8 years old.

"Shoot me for appreciating the moment, but here I am at the Super Bowl ... singing for a team and in front of the world. And remembering what it was like to be that young and look where I made it now," she said.

The Grammy-winning singer apologized for the flub in a statement issued shortly after the game, saying, "I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and that the true spirit of its anthem still came through." The slip-up came at the front end of a flurry of bad headlines for Aguilera, who was picked up for a misdemeanor charge of public intoxication in March, after tripping onstage at the Grammys the month before during a tribute to Aretha Franklin. She also recently finalized her divorce from husband Jordan Bratman.

With most of those difficult times behind her, Aguilera told DeGeneres that she's learned her lesson and is moving on. "That night I knew I just made myself a Trivial Pursuit question," she said of the lyrical slip. "In 2011, what female singer, ya know, flubbed the lyrics. It's just insane. ... But I have a really good laugh about it and you get over things. You get back up again and you just prove to yourself and to everyone you're that much stronger."

Justin Bieber, Eminem Dominate Billboard Music Awards

Teen superstar and rapper each won six trophies at Sunday night's show.
By Gil Kaufman

Justin Bieber tied with Eminem as the top winner at Sunday night's Billboard Music Awards with six trophies. But it was his embrace of reported sweetie Selena Gomez that set the Internet on fire after a night that saw splashy performances from Rihanna, an upside-down Cee Lo Green, Nicki Minaj, Ke$ha, Mary J. Blige with Lil Wayne, Taio Cruz, the Black Eyed Peas and Pitbull.

Bieber's awards included trophies for Top New Artist, Top Social Artist, Top Streaming Artist, Top Digital Media Artist, Top Pop Album and Top Streaming Song at his first-ever trip to the show. Meanwhile, veteran Eminem (who was not in Las Vegas for the show) nabbed Top Artist, Top Male Artist, Top Billboard 200 Album, Top Rap Artist, Top Rap Song and Top Rap Album for his smash comeback, Recovery.

Six artists were just behind with three wins each, including Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Usher, Mumford & Sons and Cruz. Though Bieber and Gomez have kept their relationship under wraps for months, the "Baby" singer kissed and hugged Gomez before taking the stage to accept an award.

The show featured a number of performances, two of which included surprise appearances from a lip-synching Britney Spears. The pop diva literally popped up out of the floor to join Rihanna for "S&M," writhing on a stripper pole while brandishing a pair of diamond handcuffs. The two finished things off with a pillow fight and a kiss. She also topped off a performance of Minaj's "Super Bass" with a bit of her own "Till the World Ends."

Weezy teamed up with Blige for the remix of "Someone to Love Me (Naked)." Green wore a sparkly outer-space outfit while playing piano and singing a medley of his hits ("Crazy," "Bright Lights Bigger City" and "Forget You"); he levitated over the stage and pounded the keys of his silver piano while hanging upside down at one point.

But perhaps the biggest moment of the night was when Beyoncé was presented with the prestigious Billboard Millennium Award, which was preceded by a video honoring her with testimonials from First Lady Michelle Obama, Bono, Lady Gaga, Bey's parents and sister Solange, Stevie Wonder, The-Dream and Barbra Streisand.

She accepted the award after an eye-popping performance of her new single, "Run the World (Girls)," which was highlighted by a breathtaking digital background featuring a shifting array of effects that produced a legion of virtual backup dancers and CGI-like movie effects.

Out of breath from her performance, Beyoncé thanked her mother and father for teaching her about hard work, as well as former Destiny's Child members Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, past DC members and, in a break with their usual low-key nature, husband Jay-Z.

"I'd also like to thank my best friend, and I don't want to put you on the spot because I know they're probably putting a camera in your face right now, but I love me some Jay-Z," she said with a smile.

A number of artists also took home two awards apiece, including Katy Perry, Shakira and Train.

Chris Brown Leads BET Awards Nominations

Singer receives six nods, followed by Lil Wayne with five.
By Gil Kaufman

Chris Brown's career reboot hit a new high on Tuesday when he was nominated for a field-leading six 2011 BET Awards for his F.A.M.E. album. Brown, who scored his first #1 album earlier this year, was followed by Lil Wayne with five nods and Kanye West, Drake and the singer's ex, Rihanna, with four.

Brown, who pleaded guilty to felony assault on Rihanna in June 2009, will face off with his former flame in two categories, Viewers' Choice and Best Collaboration, which will pit his "Look at Me Now" against her collabo with Drake on "What's My Name."

The Best Female R&B Artist race will feature Rihanna against Beyoncé, Jennifer Hudson, Keri Hilson and Marsha Ambrosius, while the male category will have Brown facing Cee Lo Green, Bruno Mars, Trey Songz and Usher.

Just days after rapper M-Bone was killed in a drive-by shooting, his group, Cali Swag District, was nominated in the Best Group category alongside Diddy-Dirty Money, N.E.R.D., New Boyz and Travis Porter.

In addition to Rihanna, Brown is up against himself in the Best Collaboration race, which also includes B.o.B featuring Hayley Williams, "Airplanes"; Brown featuring Lil Wayne & Busta Rhymes, "Look at Me Now"; Brown featuring Tyga & Kevin McCall, "Deuces"; Waka Flocka Flame featuring Roscoe Dash & Wale, "No Hands"; Rihanna featuring Drake, "What's My Name"; and Kanye West featuring Rihanna, "All of the Lights."

West will battle B.o.B, Drake, Weezy and Rick Ross for the Best Male Hip-Hop Artist crown, while Nicki Minaj leads the female category. Tween Willow Smith is in the Video of the Year mix with her breakthrough hit, "Whip My Hair," which will vie against Marsha Ambrosius' "Far Away," B.o.B's "Airplanes," Brown's "Look at Me Now," Hilson's "Pretty Girl Rock" and West's "Runaway."

Willow is also up for Best New Artist against J. Cole, Bruno Mars, Miguel and Wiz Khalifa. She and her brother, Jaden, are taking their sibling career rivalry to the YoungStars Award category, where they face another famous kid, Diggy Simmons.

In one of the more surprising bids, Brown landed a Best Actor nomination for his work in "Takers," in which he'll face such veterans as Jamie Foxx, Idris Elba and Don Cheadle.

Joining Brown and Rihanna in the Viewers' Choice slot are Lil Wayne featuring Cory Gunz, "6 Foot 7 Foot"; Mindless Behavior, "My Girl"; Nicki Minaj featuring Drake, "Moment 4 Life"; and Trey Songz featuring Nicki Minaj, "Bottoms Up." The show airs live on June 26 from Los Angeles' Shrine Auditorium.

'The Hangover Part II' Smashes Box-Office Record

Todd Phillips' sequel has biggest opening weekend for a live-action comedy.
By Ryan J. Downey

Photo: Warner Bros.

Two years ago, "The Hangover" writer/director Todd Phillips told MTV News: "I love 'The Hangover' so much and I think we could crush it with the sequel." In terms of ticket sales, at least, he was right.

"The Hangover Part II" crushed a box-office record over the weekend, grossing $86 million from Friday-to-Sunday, the biggest opening ever for a live-action comedy. Thanks to the Memorial Day holiday and a Thursday debut, the buddy sequel (which swaps Las Vegas for Thailand) has already made $117 million. "The Hangover" opened with $45 million in 2009. "Part II" stands just behind "The Matrix Reloaded" on the list of R-rated openings.

Another sequel, "Kung Fu Panda 2," was the #2 movie at the box office, according to studio estimates. Featuring the voice of Jack Black in the title role, the animated kids' flick debuted with $47.8 million over the four-day weekend. The movie's 3-D screenings accounted for about 45 percent of its business. The film's opening weekend total was less than that of the first film, despite many positive reviews. "The Hangover Part II," by comparison, was a flop with critics.

"Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" took in $39.5 million for a two-week $153.1 million domestic total. "Bridesmaids" held strong with $16.5 million to come in at #4 with an $85.1 million total. "Thor" rounded out the top five with $9.4 million for a $159.7 million total.

Filmmaker Woody Allen's "Midnight in Paris" managed to enter the top 10 despite playing at only 52 locations. (By comparison, "The Hangover" sequel was available at over 3600 locations). Starring Owen Wilson and bolstered by strong reviews, "Midnight" was #7 at the box office with $1.9 million for a two-week total of $2.8 million. Also in limited release, "The Tree of Life," starring Brad Pitt and Sean Penn, opened at four locations with $373,000.

Mutant superhero prequel "X-Men: First Class" hits theaters this weekend. Justin Bieber, Bruno Mars, Muse Added To Grammy Show

Usher, Jaden Smith, B.o.B, Janelle Monae and Lady Antebellum will also perform on February 13.

Beyonce Does The Math On New '1+1' Track

Singer debuted the dreamy love song from her forthcoming 4 album on Wednesday night's 'American Idol' finale.

Beyoncé may not know a thing about algebra, but when it comes to the math of power ballads, she totally gets it. On Wednesday night, Beyoncé premiered her new track "1+1" during her performance on "American Idol."

After changing into a gown following her medley performance with former "Idol" contestants, B was up on the stage surrounded by soft red mood lighting and smoke, slowing things down a bit and proclaiming her love for that special someone in song. The lyrics make sweeping statements about the power of her relationship.

She sings, "Hey! I don't know much about guns but I ... I've been shot by you/ Hey! And I don't know when I'm gonna die, but I hope that I'm gonna die by you/ Hey! And I don't know much about fighting, but I, I know I will fight for you/ Hey! Just when I ball up my fist, I realize that I'm laying right next to you."

The song is the second officially released single from her album 4, which hits stores on June 28. On Wednesday, Beyoncé revealed the full track listing for 4.

"1+1" opens the album and is one of 12 songs. The remaining 11 are: "I Care," "I Miss You," "Best Thing I Never Had," "Party" (featuring Andre 3000), "Rather Die Young," "Start Over," "Love on Top," "Countdown," the recently leaked "End of Time," "I Was Here" and the album's lead-off single, "Run the World (Girls)."

Michael Jackson's 'Thriller': Story Behind The 'Glee' Cover

MJ classic is mashed up with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' 'Heads Will Roll' for post-Super Bowl episode.
By Aly Semigran

"Glee"
Photo: FOX

Madonna, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and now, finally, Michael Jackson. The cast of "Glee" has covered plenty of icons during their first two seasons, but it's taken 33 episodes to get around to the King of Pop.

With a huge catalog of Jackson songs, the singing, dancing students of McKinley High paid homage to the late singer with one of his biggest staples (and, arguably, the greatest music video of all time) with their take on "Thriller."

The groundbreaking single from Jackson's best-selling album of the same name was mashed up with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' "Heads Will Roll" for the post-Super Bowl episode (titled "The Sue Sylvester Bowl Shuffle"), featuring a zombie-fied "Glee" cast.

Bound to become a smash all over again (though with its nonstop rotation at Halloween parties and wedding receptions until the end of time, it's never truly gone away), here's a brief history of the dance/pop classic.

Released on January 23, 1984, "Thriller" was the seventh, and final, single to be released from Jackson's smash record. According to the RIAA, the album (released by Epic Records) has gone gold 29 times, narrowly edging out the Eagles' Greatest Hits 1971-1975 for the title of best-selling album of all time.

In 2009, MTV News estimated that the Thriller album was poised to go triple diamond, meaning 30 million records sold in the U.S. alone.

After Thriller's other singles (including "Billie Jean," "Beat It" and "Wanna Be Startin' Something") dominated the charts, it was time for the spooky, undeniably original track to take over. The song "Thriller" also appeared on many of Jackson's other albums, including the compilations HIStory and Number Ones.

Clocking in at a little under six minutes (though the radio edit was closer to four-and-a-half), the song features pop-music mainstays like synthesizers but shakes things up with its spooky sound effects, including creaking floors, howling and thunder.

The song was produced by Quincy Jones and written and composed by Rod Tempterton and spent 14 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at #4.

But it's the music video for "Thriller" that truly made it the phenomenon it was in the '80s and continues to be today. Less a music video than a mini-motion picture, the video (over 13 minutes long and directed by John Landis) won three MTV Video Music Awards and has been named the best music video of all time by many outlets, including VH1 for the special "VH1: 100 Greatest Videos."

The chiller features Jackson in that iconic red leather jacket on a date with his girlfriend (played by Ola Ray) before things go terribly awry. After all, as Jackson (whose disclaimer at the start of the video reads, "This film in no way endorses a belief in the occult") sings in the opening line, "It's close to midnight and something evil's lurking in the dark." Cue werewolves, zombies, Vincent Price's soliloquy and one of the most memorable dance sequences ever.

The video was (no pun intended) a monster hit. As the Los Angeles Times notes, "At the height of the song's popularity, MTV would run the 14-minute 'Thriller' video twice an hour."

Choreographed by Jackson and Michael Peters (who, as the LA Times also reported, appears in the video as one of the zombies) and with makeup by Oscar-winner Rick Baker (also an undead "Thriller" extra) was made with a huge budget of an estimated $500,000.

Still, the efforts paid off. Landis (who told the "Today" show back in 2009 that no one wanted to give them the funds to make the risky vid) made the accompanying 45-minute documentary about the venture, called "The Making of Thriller." Featuring the behind-the-scenes wizardry, as well as the music video in full, it would go on to move more than 10 million copies.

Since then, the signature song and video have seen their share fair of tributes in movies (notably in the 2004 comedy"13 Going on 30") and TV ("South Park," "Family Guy," "30 Rock," among others), not to mention the countless flash mobs that have gone viral. (Remember the prisoners in the Philippines who became overnight phenomenons on YouTube?)

Even with the "Glee" number, this likely won't be the last incarnation of "Thriller." Billboard reported in October that a "Thriller" film is in the works. With a plot allegedly revolving around Price's narration, Kenny Ortega, who directed Jackson's last effort, "This Is It," will reportedly helm the project.

Since Jackson's untimely passing on June 25, 2009, the song and video's legacy continue to live on. In the week following Jackson's death, "Thriller" was the best-selling track in the U.S., with sales of 167,000 copies on the Billboard Hot Digital Singles chart.

Then, in December 2009, "Thriller" was the first music video to ever be inducted into the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress. It seems "no mere mortal can resist ... the thriller" after all.

What did you think of the "Thriller" mash-up on "Glee"? Let us know in the comments!

'Teen Wolf' Stars Enjoy 'Magical' Hollywood Premiere

'It's just blowing me away,' star Tyler Posey says of show's approaching June 5 debut on MTV.

HOLLYWOOD — While we're still about 10 moons away from the TV premiere of MTV's new series "Teen Wolf" (actually, it's on Sunday, June 5, after the MTV Movie Awards), the show's cast and crew celebrated with a beast of a premiere party at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel on Wednesday night.

It was a reunion of sorts for the cast, who began production on the show more than a year ago. And when MTV News caught up with them on the red carpet, they were equally excited and anxious to unveil the series.

"Dude, it's surreal, man — like, I can't believe it was already over a year ago we filmed the pilot, and it's already here. The show premieres in 11 days, and it's just blowing me away," said actor Tyler Posey, who plays lead lupine character Scott McCall. "I cannot believe how fast it came, and I'm just so stoked. I can't even believe it."

Crystal Reed, who plays Allison Argent (Scott's love interest), was just as thrilled to be standing on the red carpet at the show's premiere party.

"It's really surreal," Reed said. "I drove up this morning and I drove by [Grauman's] Chinese Theatre, and I haven't been in Hollywood that long, and I was thinking about how the tourists view Hollywood — and I felt like that once. But I drove up to my own premiere, and I started crying a little, because it's just such a magical moment for us. And to be with these people, I absolutely, genuinely adore them. My castmates are the best people in the world."

While viewers will get their first look at Scott's full werewolf transformation on June 5, Posey recalled the first time he saw himself in the complete monster makeover.

"It was four and half hours to get in all the makeup," Posey said. "I remember thinking, 'Am I gonna have to do this every day, four and a half hours?' But I think the final look, dude, it's nuts. I was staring at myself for so long in the mirror. And then they would get me in the makeup, shoot, and people would be talking to me, having normal conversations, and I'd look in the mirror and I'd be like, 'How the hell are people having normal conversations with me right now? It's just so weird.' But yeah, it really — it totally gets me into character when I'm in that makeup."

'Hangover 2' Stars Talk 'Chaos' At New York Premiere

Ed Helms tells MTV News that the comedy sequel is 'disturbing, horrifying, unnerving ... oh, and also hilarious.'
By Jocelyn Vena

Ed Helms
Photo: MTV News

NEW YORK CITY — Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and director Todd Phillips all showed up at the Landmark Sunshine Theater on Monday night to celebrate the premiere of "The Hangover Part II," the follow-up to 2009's hit buddy comedy about the aftermath of a lost night of debauchery in Las Vegas. Helms told MTV News on the red carpet that he never expected that he and his castmates would get back together for more partying and antics.

"We had no idea that 'The Hangover' would do what it did so we were all kind of blown away," Helms recalled. "But then very quickly a conversation for a sequel started and we were all kind of like, 'I don't know.' And then Todd showed us the script and it was amazing, so we were like, 'Yeah, let's do that.' "

The "that" turned out to be just as crazy as the first time around, with Helms, Cooper and Zach Galifianakis trying to piece together another lost evening of overindulgence, this time in Bangkok, Thailand. So, how would Helms describe the new flick? "Disturbing, horrifying, unnerving," he said. "Oh, and also hilarious. I forgot that ... Lots of craziness happened on set and you'll see all of that in the movie."

Phillips' description of the movie seems to mirror that of Helms. "Here's what it is: It's like the movie is about chaos [and] to capture chaos, you have to go to chaos, and we went to Bangkok," the director explained. Well, it seems that some people got a bit too caught up in the chaos.

"We lost them to their various vices and addictions," he added. "And in Bangkok, I think we had the same problem [that we had in Las Vegas for the first film]. It makes it a little harder [when people get caught up in the chaos]. There's always three or four guys that seem like weak links, that are, and you can tell when you're going to lose a crew guy to their vices and their wife comes and gets them and puts them in rehab and it gets better."

So how much are the "Hangover" stars like their characters in the film? "Well, we're exactly like the characters, but not how you think," Helms quipped. "I'm exactly like Zach, Zach's exactly like Bradley and Bradley's exactly like me, so go figure ... I have a huge beard and I'm a little portly."

Are you planning to see "The Hangover Part II" when it opens this weekend? Tell us in the comments.

Check out everything we've got on "The Hangover Part II."

'Lady Gaga: Inside The Outside' Aimed To 'Peel Back The Surface'

Director Davi Russo recalls Gaga's crucial wardrobe swap during MTV documentary taping.
By James Montgomery

Lady Gaga
Photo: MTV News

When he was tapped to direct "Lady Gaga: Inside the Outside," Davi Russo knew he was going to get an opportunity to do something all Little Monsters dream of: spend hours with Mother Monster and ask her practically anything.

But he probably never thought he'd also be giving her wardrobe advice. Though, as soon as filming began, he quickly realized that would be part of his responsibilities too. Luckily, like Gaga, Russo is a native New Yorker, born and raised in Brooklyn, and he currently lives on the Lower East Side, the same place Gaga haunted during her formative years. And so, though he'd just met her, he felt like the two shared enough background for him to offer a few sartorial suggestions.

"She came out in this majestic, pink [outfit], high-heels, full-on gown, with a bow, about yay big," he laughed, holding his hands a foot apart above his head, during "Lady Gaga: The After-Show." "And when we wanted to frame the shot, we wanted to live inside with her, because we wanted to give this feeling of intimacy, and we said, 'Oh my God, she has this 12-inch bow on her head!' And I'm thinking, 'Oh, God, we have to reposition our cameras ... '

"So, just immediately, during the haze of stuff, I just got as close as I could, and I said, 'Hey, you know, I want to kind of talk to you about New York and where you're from and where I'm from,' " he continued. "And she said, 'You want to talk about the neighborhood?' And I said, 'Yeah,' and she said, 'Oh my God, I need five minutes, I need to go get changed!' And she gets up, exits, and 15 minutes later, she comes out in this amazing, punk-rock, black leather jacket. Very cool."

And Gaga's ability to roll with the punches wasn't the only thing Russo learned during his time with the pop star. He came in reading all the same things we do, and he had no idea that, beneath all the glitter, she's really a DIY kind of girl.

"Again, it's so easy just to see the surface of things, and I think that's maybe the biggest misconception that a lot of people who may not be fans [have of her, that she's artificial]," he said. "Myself included. I didn't know much about her going into it, [but] I try to always peel back the surface, to see the real person, and the interview gave us the opportunity to really see that. And she's just like me; she has red blood, breathes the same air, and everything else. She's human."

What was the biggest thing you learned about Lady Gaga from "Inside the Outside"? Let us know in the comments!
