Christian Bale has signed on to play the lead in Relativity Media's Out of the Furnace , says a story at The Hollywood Reporter . Formerly titled The Low Dweller , the revenge thriller will be directed by Scott Cooper, best known for writing, producing and directing the highly-acclaimed, Oscar-winner Crazy Heart . The same article suggests that Robert Duvall, who starred in that film, is also in very early talks.
Said to be a gritty throwback to films of the 1970's, Out of the Furnace follows an ex-con who, once released from prison, is given no choice but to avenge the death of his brother.
Bale recently appeared in The Flowers of War and is set to reprise his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman in this summer's The Dark Knight Rises .
