CANADIAN reggae artiste Tafari is upbeat about his recently released single Fire, which was produced by JG — who has worked successfully with Sean Paul and John Legend.
Born Zambo Buchanan, Tafari is the son of reggae legend Big Youth.
“I will take this song as far as it can go,” he said. “It’s also an up-tempo party track. But, the direct target is to burn up radio stations in Jamaica and worldwide.”
The 31-year-old said the song has been increasing in popularity, and it will give his career a tremendous push going forward.
“It’s happening as we speak. The aim now is for radio stations to take advantage of this wonderful track and exploit all the possibilities,” he said.
During his career, which according to him began at birth, Tafari has had to deal with the tagline of being the son of a reggae legend while trying to carve his niche.
“I’m handling it well. It’s rather easier than I thought because you would already have a blueprint to follow,” he said. “I only have to continue make consistently good music. That’s the real idea, but I will always be a part of the Big Youth rap and you can’t get around that.”
In the past three years, Tafari has released singles with music videos in Jamaica including Rude Boy Warning/Bad Bad Bad, produced by Tony Kelly, Ain’t No Stoppin, featuring Junior Reid, produced by JG and Not An Easy Road, featuring his father. He also scored two songs placed in Academy Award-nominated director/producer John Singleton’s film Illegal Tender.
The smooth talker has also established his record label Rud3 Music Recordings with an aim to captivate the listening public with delicious beats from all genres of music.
